The last five minutes. Baggage Claim closes the flight: confirm what was committed to, agree what leaves the room, and score the meeting. It is the gate teams are most tempted to skip and the one that makes the next meeting better.
Concluding#
Recap the to-dos
Read back everything that was committed to in the last hour, with the owner's name on each one. This is where you find out that two people thought the other one was doing it.
Agree what cascades
Decide what the rest of the company needs to hear from this meeting, who tells them, and by when. A decision the leadership team makes and nobody else learns about was half a decision.
Rate the meeting
Everyone scores the meeting out of ten. Runway shows the whole crew roster and each person's score, so it takes seconds rather than a round of the table.
The rating#
Each crew member gives the meeting a score from one to ten and can add a line about why. If someone is absent or has already dropped off, another crew member can enter a score on their behalf; a person's own score always wins over one entered for them.
- Eight or above is a good meeting. Aim for a ten, which you will not get every week.
- Below eight comes with a reason, out loud, and the reason is usually an issue for next week rather than a criticism of anyone.
Scores are saved with the flight, so the trend over a quarter is visible in Flight Logs. A crew whose scores are drifting down has a problem worth putting on the issues list.
Ending the flight#
Ending the flight writes the whole meeting down: the gate timings, the state of every board, the notes taken, and the scores. See Running a flight for what happens at landing, and Flight Logs for reading it back.
