Plans and billing

What Free includes, what First Class adds, and how seats are counted and charged.

Two plans#

An account is either Free or First Class. There is no middle tier and no enterprise tier.

Free is free permanently, not a trial. If your leadership team is three people on one crew, it may be all you ever need.

How seats work#

  • A seat is a person in your organization, not a person in a crew. Somebody on four crews is one seat.
  • Pending invitations count too, from the moment they are sent. That is what stops an invitation failing at the moment somebody first logs in.
  • You cannot set the seat count below the number of seats actually occupied. Remove people first, then reduce the count.

Changing seats#

Seat changes take effect immediately and are prorated. Adding a seat mid-period charges the remainder of the period for that seat straight away; removing one credits the unused time against your next invoice. Runway spells out the exact consequence before you confirm.

Monthly or yearly#

First Class bills monthly or yearly, and the two are identical in what they include. Yearly is charged once, up front, and works out at two months free.

  • Monthly to yearly takes effect immediately, with the unused part of the month credited.
  • Yearly to monthly is scheduled for the end of the year you have already paid for. The annual charge is not refunded.

Cancelling#

Cancelling keeps First Class for the rest of the period you have paid for, then the account returns to Free. Your data is not deleted: an account over the Free limits keeps everything and becomes read-only where the limits bite, so nothing is lost by pausing.

A failed payment does not switch anything off immediately either. The account keeps First Class through the payment retry window.

Managing it#

Billing and seats live in the Billing & Seats dialog, opened from the account menu in the app header. Invoices, cards and receipts are handled by Stripe through the customer portal, reachable from the same place. Only owners and admins can see it.
